Week of August 18- August 24, 2008

FRIDAY, AUGUST 22
The Lions practiced today in shorts on the indoor field at the team's headquarters and practice facility in Allen Park. This week's practice routine was intended to simulate the regular season.

Lions Coordinator of Athletic Medicine/Athletic Trainer Dean Kleinschmidt met briefly with the media today and confirmed that QB Drew Stanton sustained a ligament sprain to his thumb during Thursday's practice. Kleinschmidt said Stanton's thumb will be immobilized in a cast for four weeks and that Stanton will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Browns. He also confirmed that K Jason Hanson, TE Dan Campbell and DT Cory Redding have been ruled out for Saturday's game against Cleveland.

The team announced today that they have signed QB Drew Henson and released WR Eric Fowler. Henson (6-4, 235) played three seasons at the University of Michigan (1998-2000) where he completed 214-of-374 passes for 2,964 yards and 24 touchdowns. He was originally drafted by the Houston Texans in the sixth round (192nd overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2004 where he saw his first NFL action. Henson was released by the Cowboys at the end of the 2006 preseason and eventually signed to the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. After spending 2007 training camp with the Vikings, he was released and did not play in the regular season. Fowler, also a Michigan native (New Haven, Mich.), was a standout receiver at Grand Valley State where he garnered various honors, including: AP first team All-American, Don Hansen's Football Gazette first-team all-NW Region, Daktronics first-team All-American and D2football.com first-team All-American. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent for Pittsburgh following the 2007 NFL Draft but was released at the end of the preseason. Fowler eventually joined St. Louis' practice squad December 12, 2007 and then re-signed with the Rams following the season but was released July 22, 2008.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 21
The Lions practiced today in shells (helmets and shoulder pads) on the indoor field at the team's headquarters and practice facility in Allen Park. This week's practice routine is intended to simulate the regular season.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20
The Lions practiced today in shells (helmets and shoulder pads) on the outdoor field at the team's headquarters and practice facility in Allen Park. This week's practice routine is intended to simulate the regular season.

Through the first two preseason games, Detroit's defense has sacked the opposing quarterback seven times. Five of the Lions sacks have been by rookie defensive linemen: defensive end Rudy Hardie (2), defensive tackle Andre Fluellen (2) and defensive end Cliff Avril.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 19
The Lions had a full-squad practice this afternoon in pads on the outdoor field at the team's headquarters and practice facility in Allen Park. This week's practice routine is intended to simulate the regular season.

The team announced today that they have placed FB Jon Bradley (shoulder) on the Reserve/Injured list. Bradley came to Detroit last season after spending three seasons (2004-06) with the Buccaneers. Bradley made the transition from defensive tackle to fullback during training camp in 2007 and saw action in 15 games (six starts) during the regular season posting five carries for 9 yards.

In other roster moves, the Lions announced that they have signed TE Clark Harris. Harris was originally signed to the Lions practice squad on November 28, 2007 after spending the beginning of the season on the Packers practice squad. Harris was signed for the 2008 season on January 1, 2008 and released on May 19. He was a seventh round draft pick (243rd overall) by the Packers out of Rutgers in the 2007 NFL Draft.

Detroit also waived-injured WR Taye Biddle (groin) after claiming him off waivers July 29. Biddle entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent for Carolina in 2006 and spent six games on the Panthers' active roster as a rookie. He was released by Carolina at the end of the 2007 preseason and was soon signed to Tampa Bay's practice squad where he spent the entire season. The Buccaneers re-signed Biddle January 25, 2008 but waived him July 25..
