With Jim Colletto replacing Mike Martz as the offensive coordinator, the Detroit Lions will obviously see some changes – including a little more focus on the rushing attack. But MLive Lions Insider Tom Kowalski doesn't expect them to forget about advancing down the field through the air.
"I've called it a 'run-first' offense as well,"
Kowalski tells WGHN-AM's Ryan Terpstra, "and I'm not sure that that's really the best description. I think that they're going to pay more attention to the run than they did last year. They're still going to throw the ball a lot, there's no question about it."
"But they want to control the ball. They don't want it to be a feast or famine kind of thing that it was last year. And if they get into a tough game where the defense is struggling, they don't want to go three-and-out. They want to run the ball, use some clock, and things like that. That's the design."
"But like I said, if that defense doesn't play any better and get the ball back, it really won't make much difference."
