Colletto hopes Lions draft running back
Jim Colletto's draft wish list is for the Detroit Lions to get a running back or offensive tackle, but he expects the defense to be addressed on the first round.
Colletto, beginning his first season as the Lions' offensive coordinator, is installing a more balance attack than previously as offseason workouts have begun.
"We're looking in the draft at the offensive line and running back," Colletto said Monday. "It all depends on what pops up at the time we pick. I also know from the trials and tribulations of a head coach, you'd better be good on defense first.
"I think that's the orientation we're going in. Then we're looking to see who we can get when the chance to take when an offensive guy pops up."
Tatum Bell recently returned to the Lions on a one-year contract, but he is the only running back on the roster with starting experience in the NFL. That could influence which way the Lions do in the draft, April 26-27. The Lions have the 15th pick overall.
Colletto is giving running back a slight edge over a tackle. The draft is deep in both positions.
"I'm not sure yet," Colletto said. "I think if you had to rank one over the other, I'd probably lean a little bit toward the running back at this point. We'd take either one, if they fit the bill."
