Marinelli hopes to have WR Johnson back for Redskins game
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli said Monday he is hopeful injured rookie wide receiver Calvin Johnson will play Sunday at Washington.
Calvin Johnson missed Sunday's 37-27 win over Chicago after sustaining a back injury Sept. 23 in Philadelphia. He warmed up before the Bears game, but was a last-minute scratch.
"He was close for Chicago," Marinelli said. "I'm not going to say that I expect him to play — we'll have to see how things go this week, but I'm hoping that he will play."
Calvin Johnson, the No. 2 pick in April's draft, had 10 catches for 189 yards and two touchdowns in Detroit's first three games.
