Marinelli thinks Calvin Johnson will play vs. Bears, plus other injury updates
Lions coach Rod Marinelli thinks wide receiver Calvin Johnson will be able to play Sunday against Chicago, but he isn’t sure.
“I think Calvin Johnson’s going to be fine,” Marinelli said after practice Thursday. “But I don’t want to tell you something, and then it’s not true.”
Calvin Johnson, who has a bruised lower back, did some running Thursday. He is scheduled to practice some today.
“We’ll see how that goes, see how he wakes up tomorrow,” Marinelli said.
Left tackle Jeff Backus, who has a strained muscle in his side, took reps with the second team Thursday. Marinelli hopes Backus can play against the Bears.
Defensive end Kalimba Edwards (ankle), offensive lineman Damien Woody (ribs), running back T.J. Duckett (ankle) and linebackers Alex Lewis (hamstring) and Anthony Cannon (thigh) did not practice Thursday.
Edwards probably will be a game-time decision. Woody’s status is uncertain. Lewis probably won’t play. Duckett and Cannon will be out.
