Update:
Calvin Johnson will play the first quarter of Thursday's preseason finale against the Bills, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Recommendation:
"He just needs the work," coach Rod Marinelli said. "He needs some snaps." Calvin Johnson will be playing the role of Roy Williams in his quarter of play, as the Lions are holding him out merely as a precaution. The three-headed monster of Williams, Calvin Johnson and Mike Furrey will be ready to go Week 1 against the Raiders and will provide Jon Kitna with a multitude of weapons.
