| Should the Cowboys Have Traded Up for Calvin Johnson?
I admit to being a little surprised that some Cowboys' fans (kinda sorta) wanted the team to draft Brady Quinn. I can (kinda sorta) understand the thinking, but I don't agree with it. Plus, I like Anthony Spencer. I wonder, though, how fans feel about this potential draft-day scenario:
Word is Detroit's Matt Millen wanted a king's ransom that included Pro Bowl linebacker Demarcus Ware for [Dallas to trade up to] the No.2 pick. The Cowboys thought about it but then decided – as they should have – not to pursue the deal. Ware is too valuable and with T.O. and Terry Glenn, there wasn't a pressing need this season to add a wideout
This is from the Dallas Morning News's Jean-Jacques Taylor. And I agree, this would be a dumb move for the Cowboys. Drafting a quarterback late in Round 1 is one thing -- even if there's not an immediate need -- but DeMarcus Ware, one of the best young outside linebackers in the league in addition to a bunch of other stuff ... well, that sounds like something Matt Millen would do.
So I guess we should give owner Jerry Jones credit for not falling in love with Calvin Johnson enough to trade away the rest of the team. And Millen deserves some props too. He made it through an entire draft without doing something really stupid ... like taking another first-round wideout. Oh, wait.
