| Lions choose Calvin Johnson
The Detroit Lions have picked Calvin Johnson with the second pick, the fourth wide receiver they've taken in the first round in the last five years. There is some talk that Calvin Johnson will still be traded from the Lions, who were reportedly talking with the Bucs and the Falcons up until they picked. -- Sean Leahy
NFL analysis
Will the Lions keep Calvin Johnson? Will they hold him hostage the way the Giants did with Eli Manning in 2004? Though he may seem like a luxury item, Calvin Johnson should fit seamlessly into Mike Martz's offense in Detroit. Mike Furrey was a revelation last year and he received a new deal. He could also be a Brandon Stokley-esque No. 3 receiver ... he definitely won't sneak up on the league this year whatever role he has. With Kevin Jones' status in doubt and Tatum Bell and T.J. Duckett not renowned as mail carriers, Detroit could be winging it a lot in 2007. -- Nate Davis
College analysis
What is scary about Calvin Johnson’s career at Georgia Tech is that he compiled nearly 3,000 receiving and 28 touchdowns without the benefit of a solid quarterback during his three years with the Yellow Jackets. A gifted athlete that physically dominated opponents at the college level, the only negative during his career were some dropped passes at crucial times. -- Erick Smith
