| Calvin Johnson: Ready For NFL Reception
If anyone can ruin NFL draft day for LSU quarterback Calvin Johnson and Notre Dame passer Brady Quinn, it could be Calvin Johnson
With the size, strength and quickness to excel in the league, the Georgia Tech wide receiver could be the draft's No. 1 overall pick.
"The sky is the limit," Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey said about Calvin Johnson when the junior announced in January he would forgo his senior season and instead enter the draft. "He has the tangible factors to be a great, great player, and he has the intangible factors to be a great, great player."
The 6-foot-5-inch Biletnikoff Award winner tallied 76 receptions for 1,202 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. He saved his best performance for the Gator Bowl, where Georgia Tech lost to West Virginia 38-35. In his final collegiate game the two-time all-American made nine receptions for a career-best 186 yards and two touchdowns.
Calvin Johnson's bowl-game performance earned him MVP honors, but it was nothing out of the ordinary to his team.
"His play today was typical. That's what we've come to expect from Calvin Johnson," Gailey said after the Gator Bowl.
Calvin Johnson leaves Georgia Tech as one of the best wideouts in school history and the record-holder in yards receiving (2,927) and touchdown receptions (28).
Now the ACC's 2006 Player of the Year is ready to take his game to the next level.
"(The NFL's) been the one place I've wanted to be since I started playing football," Johnson said.
He'll get his formal welcome April 28.
